WHY DOES GOD ALLOW BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN?

Updated: Oct 19, 2020

God is everything because he created everything, so he is in everything. In other words, God is the ultimate parent. As the ultimate parent of the world he gives instruction and direction to make the world run properly. God's first command that he gave to the world is in Genesis 1:3 God said, "let there be light", and there was light.

As God continued to create the world there was not any disobedience. When he finished a creation the bible said God was pleased with it. Then we get to chapter 2 of the bible; this is when sin had started...

God gave a commandment to Adam

Genesis 2:16-17

And the Lord God commanded the man "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will die.

God then created women, she was tricked into eating the apple by a serpent and she gave Adam some to eat as well.

Punishment

All three beings were punished by God forever.

Serpent- Genesis 3:14-15

"Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

Women Genesis 3:16

I will make your pains in child bearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

Adam 3:17-19

"Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By sweat of your brow you will eat your food. Until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return."

After awhile living outside of Eden, Adam and Eve gave birth to two sons Cain and Abel. Adam and Eve had herds of animals and they also had grew crops. They were back to living a decent life with God's grace and mercy. It was not the garden of Eden but they were still living a good life.

Genesis Chapter 4 Abel and Cain gave offerings to the Lord. Abel kept the flocks and Cain worked the soil. Some time passes and Cain gave God the fruits of the soil while Abel gave God a portion of fat from his first born flock. Now God had favor on what Abel have given him and did not have favor of what Cain have given. Cain was angered that God did not favor his offering and out of jealousy he killed his brother Abel.

Punishment

Genesis 4:11

Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from hand. When you work the ground it will no longer yield its crop for you. You will be restless wonderer on the earth.

These are only the first two examples where God shown people favor and mercy. People sinned and they were punished for it. Even before Cain killed his brother Abel God warned him. Genesis 4:6-7 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Yet he did not heed the Lords warning and he killed his brother.

Story of parenting

A man and a woman was given favor by the Lord. They were blessed with three children, 2 boys and 1 girl. Before the first child was born the parents decided to move into the best neighborhood possible. By God's grace and mercy they have found an amazing place. The parents created an environment where there was plenty of comfort and love. The neighbors were friendly, the schools were the best in the nation. The crime was so low that the people felt comfortable having their doors unlocked. There was a lot of fun activities all the time for both adults and children to enjoy. The house they lived in had 4 stories and it was newly constructed with brick so that it would last longer. All the children had there own room to decorate and enjoy. God had really blessed this family.

The eldest child grew up to the age of 11 years old and the parents allowed him to play in the Living Room. They had toys setup for him and he was free to watch television as well as sit on the couch and just enjoy the space. The only rule was not to eat the candy on the table. If he does eat it; he will never be able to play in the Living Room again. The child didn't pay any mind to the candy on the table, he continued to play with his toys and watch television. The Living Room was very spacious; so it was exciting for him to have the area to play in. The boy's father didn't want him to play alone; he sent his sister in the Living Room to play with him for company. After a while the sister began to get hungry. The youngest child walks by the Living Room and sees his sister playing and steering at the candy but not touch it. The oldest told her to not even think about touching the candy. He knows their father will kick them out of the Living Room.

The youngest child goes into the Living Room and gets the girls attention. He asked her "what are you doing in the Living Room?" Normally only the oldest child gets to play in the Living Room. She tells him "Playing with some toys with brother." The youngest looks over the girl's shoulder and sees the candy; he asked the girl "did you have one before"? The girl says "no way, dad only gives the candies to the guest. Big bother said we will get kicked out of the Living Room if we eat it." The youngest son says "no way, dad might get a little mad but he loves you too much to kick you out the Living Room for a taste of candy. Think about it, when was the last time you really got in trouble." The girl thought and said "you are right, we will not get kicked out of the Living Room. He will yell a little and mom would just ignore him and we will be fine." The girl said, "big brother is not going to let me just take the candy, he is big on rules." The youngest son says "he is not even looking at you, he is too busy playing with his toys. I will tell you what to do...just take a big piece of candy, take a bite and make sure to give him the rest to eat." The girl says "but what if he ask where I got the candy from?" The youngest son says "just tell him it's old candy you secretly saved from Halloween." The girl child agreed... As she walked to take the candy, the youngest son left the Living Room before he was caught in there. He knows that his parents don't want him in there, the last time they let him play in the Living Room he ate the candy.

A few moments pass and the father called out to the Oldest son and the girl. They did not answer him and the television was louder then normal. He walked into the Living Room to turn the television down and see them jump off the couch. The father turned the television off and asked them if they lost their complete minds. The father said "what would make you think to jump off of the couch like that?" The children replied "nothing" The father replied "Did you think it was a good idea" the children replied "no". The father looked over at the candy dish; he realized a piece of candy was missing and there was a candy wrapper on the floor. The father asked the oldest son did he eat the candy from the dish. He says "no, I only ate the candy the girl gave me." The father asked the girl where did she get candy from. She said the candy dish and I shared it with my older brother. In a fit of anger the father kicked both the children out of the Living Room permanently.

Punishment

The youngest child is not trusted to do anything by himself. He has to either ask his parents to help him or his siblings.

The girl has to help clean the house and cook with her mother. She gets taught from a young age how a lady is supposed to behave.

The oldest child has to watch over the two younger ones. He is completely in charge to make sure that they do not misbehave. If they do misbehave not only do they get in trouble but he gets in trouble as well.

The mother and father used the gifts that the Lord gave them to give their children a good life. The children broke their parents rules which caused them to be punished. As they grow and learn they will continue to break their parents rules and get punished. They will not continue to break the same rules; as they grow around their parents they will learn what is expected of them. Even though they make mistakes their parents will still love them. The parents never allowed bad things to happen to the children.

Matthews 7:11

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

God does not allow bad things to happen. People being wick do bad things and expect God to save them as quickly as possible from the mistakes that they made. God continues to show his favor and mercy and people continue to do the wrong thing.

The book of Romans 1:28 said it best...

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do things which are not fitting.
